Inter’s hopes of signing Leandro Paredes from Paris Saint-Germain in January have suffered a blow after the midfielder told the Ligue 1 giants he intends to stay at the club, according to reports in France.

Le Parisien have reported the Argentine is excited at the prospect of playing for fellow countryman Mauricio Pochettino, who is expected to be announced as the club’s new head coach this week.

Reports in Italy recently have suggested Inter were looking to organise a swap deal that would bring Paredes to Milan and send Christian Eriksen to Paris.

PSG are reluctant to invest in Eriksen during the January transfer window, however, because they feel they are already well stocked in terms of attacking midfielders.

Eriksen has made just five starts for Inter in all competitions this season and is all but certain to leave the club this month.

It remains unclear who will be prepared to make the kind of offer Inter want, though, with PSG previously thought to be the most likely destination.
