Antonio Conte was left ruing Inter’s wastefulness in front of goal after the Nerazzurri fell to defeat at Sampdoria today.
The Nerazzurri headed into this match having won their last eight Serie A matches but they lost 2-1 to the Blucerchiati, who were helped to victory by goals from former Inter players Antonio Candreva and Keita Balde.
“I called this match a bit strange because we found ourselves going from missing a penalty to going 2-0 down,” he remarked in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the match in Liguria.
“For sure there must be great regret because there was great commitment from the players and a lot of chances were created.
“They were more clinical in front of goal than us and we were not very precise and their goalkeeper had a good match.”
Conte then went on to express his belief that his side deserved something more from this match given the way that they performed, despite the far from ideal conditions that the match was played in at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
“In fact, that’s what we regret,” he said.
“Sometimes defeat comes and you deserve it for many reasons, but today I think we deserved something more, but we know very well that football is like this and sometimes defeats need to be justified after a good performance.”
In conclusion he was asked about Alessandro Bastoni’s post-match comments, in which the Italian admitted to be looking ahead to the next match, and whether he is doing the same.
“Yes, absolutely because there is very little time to think about what happened.
“There must be regret for the result but let’s turn the page.
“We know that the path we have taken is a good path, even today we deserved more but it happens and we have to get up after the defeats like this whilst keeping our feet on the ground after wins.”
