Antonio Conte and Inter’s streak of wins in the Serie A ended at 8 after a defeat away at the hands of Sampdoria with 2-1 after Alexis Sanchez missed a penalty.
Former Nerazzurri coach Claudio Ranier ended current Inter coach Antonio Conte’s run with one of his trademarked Dilly Ding Dilly Dong performances aided in no small part by two former Inter players, Antonio Candreva and Keita Balde.
Samir Handanovic – 5.5: He’s on a down spiral evidently, really should have saved Keita Balde’s shot. Save on Jankto’s shot from a counter all he did to earn more than a 5.
Milan Skriniar – 6: Really tried offensively, ran and passed forward, wanted a goal, but in the end he was late in the challenge to allow them to score their second.
Stefan De Vrij – 6.5: Caught in the no man’s land for their second goal, but made amends with a header to claw one back. Did well otherwise, the yellow he got was soft.
Alessandro Bastoni – 6.5: Inter’s best defender on the day, he keeps impressing, oozes confidence and calmness. He messed up his kick of the last Inter chance of the match.
Achraf Hakimi – 7: Best player on the pitch, high on confidence and always a threat. Provided plenty of crosses and chances for his teammates to miss on.
Nicolon Barella – 6: Hard to hate on Barella when he gives his all every minute every match. Sometimes his tenacity bites back, as was the case today with handballs.
Marcelo Brozovic – 6.5: Midfield maestro was his concentrated self this time around, dictating the play well, calm and precise distribution from the back. Got the assist.
Roberto Gagliardini – 5: Not the one to hate on RG5, but it’s hard to see the use of playing him match after match with such performances. What does he have over Stefano Sensi or Christian Eriksen?
Ashley Young – 5.5: He should’ve buried Alexis’ penalty miss rebound that ended up on the post. Gave Candreva too much space on the flank, did not press well.
Alexis Sanchez – 5.5: Was a livewire early, but lost confidence with that penalty miss. From that point it was like he changed his boots with cement ones.
Lautaro Martinez – 6: Tried hard, had some bright moments in the match, but it comes down to the fact he did not contribute, and he should’ve on that header chance he had.
Ivan Perisic – 5: He’s not a wing-back, true. But basically he was brought on to play an attacking winger, which he is. Missed two glorious chances and all his crosses.
Romelu Lukaku – 6: Chances did not fall for him, but as soon as he stepped on that pitch you could’ve felt the change in the dynamics. Reference point in attack.
Christian Eriksen – 5: You can’t but feel sorry for him, shadow of himself as it’s clear to see Conte sucked the life out of him. Can’t get anything right at the moment.
Arturo Vidal – N/A: Another one that is not the shadow of his former self. Did not get plenty of minutes, in that little he got was always late.
Danilo D’Ambrosio – N/A: Threw in as a last desperate hooruh, and it ended in nasty looking injury. Hopefully not that bad, as we know how useful DD can be.
Antonio Conte – 4.5: All I have to say – Where’s Sensi Mr. Conte? Unless it is an injury, again, than no excuses for his team selection. No creativity. No Lukaku, no party.
Paolo Valeri – 6: Busy day for Valeri, needed all the help VAR can provide. No major mistakes, but he did blow some soft fouls and given unwarranted yellows.
Inter – 5.5: Individual mistakes cost Inter, but the 1st half, again as plenty of times before, was slow and just plain bad. Time has come to pay the price.
