Inter’s owners Suning held preliminary talks with BC Partners in recent days to discuss selling a minority stake in Inter, according to an Italian newspaper report.
As per Il Giorno, the international investment fund and Inter’s current owners had a meeting via video call in the past few days.
BC Partners were represented in the meeting by Nikos Stathopoulos, the co-head of the private equity fund, whilst Inter president Steven Zhang participated on behalf of the Chinese e-commerce giants.
BC Partners would be willing to acquire a stake in Inter, perhaps even a majority one, although this would all depend on the will of Suning.
Il Giorno highlight that a new investor obtaining an important stake could be useful to Suning, who have owned Inter since 2016, for two possible reasons.
Suning could either end their involvement in Italian football by returning a very substantial investment or they could continue and have an important partner alongside them which would enable them to enter less capital into the club in the medium to long term.
