Inter have started talks to extend defender Alessandro Bastoni’s contract amid reported interest from Manchester City, according to a report in Italy today.

As per CalcioMercato.com, negotiations were started yesterday over a new deal for the Italian centre-back that would see Bastoni tied to the Nerazzurri until the end of the 2024-25 season.

His current €1 million net a year salary will be raised as part of the new deal as Inter look to lock down one of their most promising players for the foreseeable future, with Pep Guardiola’s Premier League giants thought to be keen on a move for the 21-year-old.

Bastoni, who is already under contract with Inter through to the end of the 2022-23 season, has performed consistently well since being handed his first team chance last season by coach Antonio Conte.

This season he has made 20 appearances across all competitions to date and while he has yet to score any goals, he has provided two assists for his teammates.

A report in Tuttosport on Tuesday suggested Bastoni was close to agreeing a new deal with Inter after the club met his agent Tulio Tinti yesterday.
