Atalanta have made a decision regarding the sale of club captain Papu Gomez which all but ends Inter’s hopes of landing the forward, according to a report from an Italian broadcaster today.
As per Sky Sport Italia, the Bergamo based club have decided that the 32-year-old will only be sold to a club outside of Italy and they will not sell him to one of Serie A’s top clubs, many of whom have been linked with signing him, including the Nerazzurri.
The report does explain that a transfer within Italy cannot be excluded though, especially if a mid-table or lower team were to make an offer for the former Catania player, who is widely expected to leave this month.
The player himself however would like a move to a big club and would not even take a move to a mid-table or lower club into consideration.
This season Gomez, who has been frozen out following a falling out with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini, has five goals and four assists in 16 appearances across all competitions to date.
