Inter must defeat Juventus in the Derby d’Italia in Serie A on Sunday if they are to win the Scudetto, according to Italian journalist Matteo Marani.
Speaking on Sky Sport Italia earlier today, the journalist insisted that the clash was a test of Inter’s title credentials as the Nerazzurri seek a first Scudetto since 2010.
“Inter must win this match in order to prove that they are able to win the league,” Marani claimed ahead of the match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
With Inter owners Suning engaging in negotiations to sell the club amidst interest from a number of parties, including British equity fund BC Partners, the Nerazzurri could be set for another change in leadership, with a fourth new President in the past five years.
However, Marani insisted that Suning’s approach to their management of Inter had given the club a platform to grow and believed that their influence on the club since purchasing in 2016 had been positive.
“On one hand, you have a club in Juventus who are approach a centenary with the same ownership, and on the other a club who are going through four owners in five years,” Marani continued.
“It’s impossible to predict what will happen, but Suning’s ambition has allowed for development for Inter. They have invested in the transfer market, brought in the most successful coach of recent years and invested in infrastructure.”
Suning have entered a period of exclusivity with BC Partners as movement on the sale of the club intensifies.
