Ex-Inter striker Aldo Serena believes that Inter can triumph in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus on Sunday, with Romelu Lukaku key to success.
The Nerazzurri welcome Juventus to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Serie A looking to close the gap on league leaders AC Milan, and speaking in an interview in yesterday’s print edition of newspaper Il Giorno, Serena expressed confidence that Inter can make the most of defensive absences to beat the champions.
Juventus will be without the injured Matthijs De Ligt and full-backs Juan Cuadrado and Alex Sandro, with the latter pair testing positive for coronavirus, and Serena believes that Nerazzurri striker Lukaku may find joy.
“I believe that the absences can make a big difference in this match,” Serena claimed. “Juventus are missing several players whilst Inter are only without [Danilo] D’Ambrosio.
“In a match like this, having to face a player of the calibre of Lukaku, the lack of someone like De Ligt can be felt.”
Serena went on to compare Lukaku with Cristiano Ronaldo and insisted that the different characteristics the two possessed made them key to their respective teams.
“Both are great players with different styles, Ronaldo is more of a player for the final third who only looks to goal. He rarely goes missing in big games and showed that in the Champions League.
“Lukaku is more of a team player and brings a lot to the build up play, not only goals.”
Belgium international Lukaku currently trails Ronaldo in the goalscoring chart in Serie A this season, with 12 strikes to the Juventus forward’s 15.
