Legendary Inter President Massimo Moratti: “Disappointed To See Suning Sell, The Zhang’s Had Everything”

Legendary Inter president Massimo Moratti is disappointed that the club could be sold by current owners Suning.

Chinese owners Suning are in talks with a British investment fund, BC Partners, about taking over a majority stake in the club.

Restrictions from Beijing and the coronavirus crisis have placed a strain on finances and the Nerazzurri could be sold for a fee of around €800 million.

Moratti was president of Inter for 18 years, a glorious tenure that featured five Scudetto’s, four Coppa Italia’s and the Champions League.

He sold his majority stake to Erick Thohir in 2013 but remained as honorary president for another three years.

Moratti then sold his remaining 30 per cent to allow Suning to take over in 2016.

The petrol magnate admits he is disappointed that the Chinese conglomerate could be set to sell up only a few years later, having been impressed by the group since their acquisition of his beloved club.

“I’m disappointed,” Moratti told La Repubblica as reported via FCInter1908.

“The Zhang’s had everything.

“Not just a family structure but strong manners and respect for Inter’s values.”
