Inter still have room for improvement this season despite dominating Juventus in Sunday’s Derby d’Italia, according to legendary former AC Milan and Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi.
Antonio Conte’s Nerazzurri ran out 2-0 winners over Andrea Pirlo’s Bianconeri at San Siro and they managed to pick up the win with relative ease, thanks to goals from Arturo Vidal and Nicolo Barella.
While Inter played one of, if not, their best games of the season, it was definitely one of Juve’s worst performances under Pirlo as they put up little fight in the famous fixture.
The win was in fact Inter’s first win in the fixture since Frank de Boer was the coach of the club back in September 2016.
“Inter are looking for consistency, what Juventus used to have,” Sacchi explained in an interview with La Domenica Sportiva on Rai Sport.
“They did very well on the right-hand side of the pitch but they were up against nobody.
“Andrea Pirlo shouldn’t get the blame, though; the worst thing for a coach is to have a team that does not have very strong motivation and does not have enthusiasm.
“Inter, even without doing incredible things, could have thrashed them.”
Sacchi, who is perhaps known best for his time in charge of AC Milan in the late 1980s and early 1990s, then discussed the importance of the win for Inter and implied that Inter should not get too carried away by it.
“It is an important win for Inter, they won with merit and it is a noble win for them.
“It is the kind of win that makes you think that you are better but beware of becoming presumptuous.
“Inter are still a work in progress and can do more.”
Inter return to Serie A action on Saturday when they travel to play Udinese at the Dacia Arena.
