Inter central-back Alessandro Bastoni could become one of Italy’s greatest ever defenders, at least according to noted Italian football journalist Paolo Condo.
While teammate Nicolo Barella has been enjoying the majority of the limelight since Sunday’s Derby d’Italia win over Juventus, Bastoni has also received no shortage of praise for his continued good performances in the Nerazzurri’s defence this season.
The Azzurri international has been praised greatly for his work in Antonio Conte’s back three and in the past few days he has been lauded for the assist he gave to Barella for Inter’s second goal against the Bianconeri last weekend.
“Bastoni is a potential heir to the likes of Franco Baresi, Alessandro Costacurta, Alessandro Nesta, Paolo Maldini, Fabio Cannavaro, Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci,” Condo explained while appearing in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia on Tuesday.
“I have great faith in him.”
Condo also touched upon Inter’s Serie A title credentials after their first win over Juventus since 2016.
“Inter said they believe [in winning the title] and to me they are more credible than everyone else.
“The second Milan derby next month will be a game of great significance.”
Antonio Conte’s side sit three points behind AC Milan in the Serie A standings and will return to league action at Udinese on Saturday.
