Inter are set to miss out on Fluminense winger Marcos Paulo with the Brazilian set to join Atletico Madrid, as per a report in Italy tonight.

FcInterNews.it referenced a story from Goal.com which claimed the 19-year-old is on the verge of joining Cholo Simeone’s side.

An official announcement on Marcos Paulo’s move to La Liga is expected in the next few days, potentially on Tuesday.

Atletico will pay Fluminense a small fee while the player will sign a five-year deal, albeit he will remain on loan in Brazil until the summer.

Marcos Paulo holds a Portuguese passport and so could have been registered as an EU player for Inter, hence their interest in the youngster.

The Nerazzurri were in close contact with the Brazilian teenager’s entourage over the last month and wanted to close out the deal over the next few weeks, before the end of January.

Marcos Paulo has scored three goals and provided three assists in 25 appearances for Fluminense this season.

He will instead move to Spain, forcing the Nerazzurri to focus on other targets in the South American market.
