Inter are still hoping to sign a left wing-back before the end of the January transfer window, according to a report in Italy today.

As per CalcioMercato.com, Chelsea pair Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri are players the Nerazzurri have in mind, as is Atalanta’s Robin Gosens – although a surprise signing such as Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kyiv should not be ruled out either.

Inter cannot spend for any new signings this month and any arrival will therefore have to be secured on a loan deal, otherwise they will have to wait until the summer.

It is clear the club must seek a more reliable long-term option on the left-hand side, however, with Ashley Young already 35 and Ivan Perisic likely to leave at the end of the season with his contract expiring in 2022.

Antonio Conte currently has Young and Perisic to choose from in that position, plus Matteo Darmian – although he is viewed mainly as the alternative to Achraf Hakimi on the right  – and Aleksandar Kolarov, who is seen more as a third centre-back.

CM said it was unlikely Inter would pursue a deal for Barcelona’s Junior Firpo, who they have been linked with in the past, or their own Federico Dimarco, who is on loan at Hellas Verona and doing well.
