Matias Vecino hopes to make his long-awaited return to Inter’s squad for Saturday’s Serie A match at Udinese, according to an Italian media report today.
As per Corriere dello Sport, Vecino finally took to the field yesterday for the first time since knee surgery in July as Inter played a training friendly against Serie C side Pro Sesto.
The Uruguayan international played alongside Roberto Gagliardini and Christian Eriksen in midfield, with Inter running out comfortable 4-0 winners thanks to a double from Eriksen, plus goals from Ivan Perisic and academy winger Tibo Persyn.
Vecino hasn’t featured for the Nerazzurri since the 2-2 draw at Hellas Verona on July 9 last season, with his last start coming all the way back on March 8 – the last weekend of action in Serie A before the COVID-19 lockdown – when they lost 2-0 to Juventus.
The 29-year-old, who joined Inter back in 2017 from Fiorentina, has made 96 appearances for the club, in which he has scored 11 goals and provided six assists.
