Atalanta have sent a very clear message to club captain Papu Gomez regarding the forward’s future, according to a report in Italy today.
Gomez has long been linked with a move to Inter in January, as well as several other Serie A sides, but Atalanta will only consider selling him to a club outside of Italy because they do not intend to strengthen a direct rival.
As per Friday’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport, MLS franchise FC Cincinnati have stepped up their interest and the player himself is mulling over a potential switch to the United States.
The 32-year-old Argentine, who has 18 months left on his deal with Atalanta, is widely expected to depart the club before the end of the transfer window after a complete breakdown in relations between him and head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Last night, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Sevilla were also considering a move for Gomez.
This season the former Catania player has made 16 appearances across all competitions, in which he has scored five goals and provided four assists.
