Inter still have work to do before they can reach an agreement to extend Lautaro Martinez’s contract, according to an Italian broadcaster’s report tonight.
A report in the media on Wednesday said the Nerazzurri had agreed a new three-year deal with the striker’s representatives, which would tie Lautaro to the club until 2024, to be signed tomorrow.
Sky Sport Italia, however, have assured talks are not that advanced yet, as shown by the fact the parties have only met twice in the last week.
“If they were meeting on a daily basis for talks then negotiations would be in the home stretch, but if they are meeting once a week, it shows that they both want a deal but have not agreed a figure yet,” Luca Marchetti explained.
Lautaro is currently under contract with Inter through to the end of the 2022-23 season and is understood to want his salary brought in line with teammates Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen, the two highest earners at the club.
It is difficult for Inter to offer the 23-year-old Argentine international such a salary, though, as it is a difficult time financially and the Nerazzurri cannot take advantage of the same tax laws with Lautaro as they do for Lukaku and Eriksen’s wages.
