Romelu Lukaku snapped at Zlatan Ibrahimovic during last night’s Coppa Italia derby after the AC Milan forward touched a nerve by mentioning the Belgian’s mother, according to an Italian media report today.

As per La Repubblica, when Lukaku heard Ibrahimovic mention his mother in an insulting way before half-time in Inter’s 2-1 win at San Siro, he exploded and lost control, even going as far as to threaten the Swedish striker with death.

The report goes on to explain that Lukaku’s mother Adolphine is the only woman who matters in his life and he has reiterated this in several interviews throughout the years.

His mother worked two jobs growing up to look after both him and his brother and now is a full-time grandmother to Lukaku’s two-year-old son Romeo.

Lukaku therefore sees his mother as sacred and understandably has great adoration for her.

Ibrahimovic was forced to deny claims he had used a racial slur towards Lukaku after telling the 27-year-old to go and ‘do your voodoo s***’, referencing comments made by Everton owner Farshad Moshiri in 2018.

This season the 27-year-old Belgian has scored 18 goals and tallied three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions to date.
