The outrage over the clash between Inter striker Romelu Lukaku and AC Milan counterpart Zlatan Ibrahimovic is laced with hypocrisy, Italian journalist Fabio Caressa claims.

The two forwards were engaged in a heated argument on the pitch of the Coppa Italia Quarter-Final at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Tuesday evening and had to be separated by teammates, before each receiving a yellow card.

However, in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Deejay earlier today, Caressa felt that the reaction to the argument was being overblown and that it was being taken as an opportunity for misplaced morality.

“Everyone is fighting on social media but when two big men do it on the pitch it suddenly becomes a scandal,” Caressa claimed.

“Therefore it is hypocrisy. It was not a good example but there are many bad examples on the pitch. I don’t condone their behaviour but unless there was racism involved, I find the morality in the reactions laughable.”

Caressa also offered his opinion on Roma’s attempts to offload wantaway striker Edin Dzeko by looking to conclude an exchange with Inter forward Alexis Sanchez, after the Bosnian fell out with coach Paulo Fonseca.

The deal ultimately collapsed, but Caressa felt that Inter were gaining the upper hand had it gone through.

“Clearly this transfer suited Inter, because Roma took on three aspects. Firstly, they weakened themselves by losing Dzeko, then they were strengthening a rival for Champions League qualification.

“Finally, they were bringing in a player who was useless to their style of play.

“People always fight in the workplace and then continue together and try to mend their relationships. Why can’t Dzeko and Roma do this too?” Caressa concluded.
