Inter’s win over Benevento on Saturday provided further proof of the Nerazzurri’s rock-solid solidity, according to the club’s former striker Nicola Ventola.

Antonio Conte’s side strolled to victory at San Siro courtesy of an own goal from Riccardo Improta and second-half strikes from Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku, with the Belgian grabbing a double.

They remain two points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan ahead of tonight’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg at home to Juventus.

“Inter still aren’t a pretty team but they are the most solid of them all,” Ventola said while appearing on his ex-teammate Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, Bobo TV, last night.

Ventola also spared a word of encouragement for Christian Eriksen, who was again trialled in the deep-lying play-maker position against Pippo Inzaghi’s side last weekend.

Eriksen is naturally an attacking midfielder but has now produced two promising performances in his new role, leading many to hope the 28-year-old could still turn things around for himself in Milan.

“I thought he played well there,” Ventola added.

“Inter’s inability to make any signings in January helped bring about this tactical switch.”

Eriksen has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Inter this season, scoring once during last week’s 2-1 win over AC Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
