Samir Handanovic added to his ever-growing list of mistakes this season with yet another blunder in Inter’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus last night, an Italian media report has highlighted today.
The Slovenian came needlessly rushing out during the first half of the Nerazzurri’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg, despite being told to stay back by Alessandro Bastoni, allowing Cristiano Ronaldo to bypass the pair of them and score the Bianconeri’s second into an empty net.
Tuttosport’s print edition highlighted that this was far from the first error that Handanovic has committed this season, with more and more mistakes creeping into his game as he moves further away from his peak years.
In fact, the Turin-based publication listed nine other goals this season where Handanovic was at fault or could be criticised for failing to dive, meaning the 36-year-old is now in double figures for the campaign.
Against Benevento at the start of the season he made an error which allowed Gianluca Caprari to score, while he also dropped a cross right at the feet of Ivan Ilic against Hellas Verona who was able to score an easy goal.
On both of these occasions, Handanovic’s mistakes ultimately didn’t impact the end result, but that has not been the case for all of his mistakes this term.
Against Roma on January 10, for example, Handanovic did not even make an attempt to stop either of Lorenzo Pellegrini or Gianluca Mancini’s goals in a 2-2 draw with the Giallorossi.
He also made errors at the following goals throughout the season: Federico Chiesa’s goal for Fiorentina on match day one, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s goal for Lazio, Aleksei Miranchuk’s for Atalanta, Riccardo Sottil’s for Cagliari and Keita Balde’s for Sampdoria.
