Inter Haven’t Discussed New Contract With Marcelo Brozovic Since COVID-19 Pandemic Began, Italian Media Reveal

Inter have still not resumed their contract talks with Marcelo Brozovic from last year, according to an Italian media report today.

Prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nerazzurri began discussing a new deal with the midfielder, who has once again confirmed his importance to Antonio Conte’s side this season.

As per CalcioMercato.com, however, Inter haven’t addressed the situation for almost a year and now risk losing Brozovic for less than his true value.

The Croatian international is out of contract in 2022 but his current deal includes a €50 million release clause that could be triggered by clubs outside Italy this summer.

The report argued Inter needed to get a move on and secure Brozovic’s long-term future because they remain over-reliant on the 28-year-old, without a proper alternative in central midfield.

Brozovic’s value could plummet were he to enter the final year of his contract without a renewal in sight, something Inter can ill afford to let happen given the club’s well documented economic troubles.
