Inter assistant coach Cristian Stellini has praised the team for their complete performance during a 2-0 win at Fiorentina on Friday.
The Nerazzurri won 2-0 thanks to goals from Nicolo Barella and Ivan Perisic and have moved to the top of the Serie A table for the time being, at least until AC Milan play on Sunday against Crotone.
Antonio Conte’s side have finally won their first away match of 2021 after faltering against Sampdoria, Roma and Udinese last month.
“It was not an easy match today,” Stellini, who took charge of Inter in the absence of the suspended Conte, explained to the gathered journalists at his post-match press conference at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
“We had to recover our physical and mental energy for a difficult and intense match after the match against Juventus in the Coppa Italia this week.
“We did well from start to finish, taking the lead and continuing to look for scoring chances.
“We could have killed the game off even earlier, perhaps by scoring a few more goals.”
Stellini was then asked about the fact that in addition to scoring twice and creating many opportunities, Inter also managed to keep a clean sheet.
“The team is working very well in defence, they are compact and help each other out.
“Tonight we showed it again, apart from some dangerous situations at the start of the second half the boys managed the match easily.”
In conclusion, Stellini sang the praises of Nicolo Barella, who has been one of the Nerazzurri’s star performers this season and impressed again in Florence.
“He is certainly in excellent form,” Stellini said.
“We are talking about a fundamental player, who is growing, but he is not the only one, there are many players that are doing well.
“I want to give congratulations to Nicolò and the team, from those who started to the substitutes who were ready to come on.
“Everyone gave a great contribution.”
