Referee Federico La Penna has been praised for his performance whilst officiating Inter’s 2-0 win over Fiorentina in Serie A yesterday.
The Nerazzurri were comfortable winners at the Stadio Artemio Franchi as goals from Nicolo Barella and Ivan Perisic sent Antonio Conte’s side top of the table, ahead of AC Milan’s visit of Crotone tomorrow.
However, the second goal led to widespread appeals and criticism from Fiorentina’s players after defender Igor went down in a challenge with Achraf Hakimi, before the Moroccan burst into the box and squared it for Perisic to tap in.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, La Penna made the correct decision not to blow his whistle for a foul, with Igor slipping as he tried to turn and prevent Hakimi breaking past him on the edge of the penalty area.
A quick VAR check also confirmed La Penna’s decision, whilst the Rome-born referee was also praised for his handling of the match, as well as for his use of the yellow card.
Perisic was joined in the book by Fiorentina trio Sofyan Amrabat, Erick Pulgar and Lucas Martinez Quarta, with all the cautions being deemed valid.
