Inter took charge against Fiorentina in the first 2 minutes and started on the front foot. Then as usual Fiorentina settled and played with 11 men behind the ball.
Conte’s men have struggled to break that down all season and when Dragowski made a miraculous one handed save from a close range Barella shot, it looked like it was one of those nights.
That was till Nicolo Barella pulled a magical curling strike out of the drawer from a well worked short corner. Fiorentina were shocked into life and Inter needed 2 world class saves from Samir within seconds to go in a goal up.
Vidal was struggling and taken off for injury at half time. The game opened and Inter calmed their nerves when Hakimi sped past Igor to set up Perisic for a tap in.
Fiorentina were unable to trouble Inter after that and Conte’s men are now top of the league till Crotone play against Milan at the San Siro.
Samir Handanovic – 7: The 2 saves in 10 seconds or so were both world class and surely what Samir has done more of in the past. Kept Inter in the game at a weak moment.
Milan Skriniar – 7: What a difference a year makes. A guarantee right now. Almost always makes the right decisions with or without the ball. Determination and grinta.
Stefan De Vrij – 7: Not an easy task to keep a quick forward like Vlahovic quiet. Ensured that the ball moved around a lot and led the defensive line very well off the ball.
Alessandro Bastoni – 7: Another great game for Bastoni who is slowly but surely confirming his status as one of the best young defenders in Italy if not in Europe. Masterful.
Achraf Hakimi – 7: Achraf is always in the right positions and his team mates always find him in space. When he does not overthink with the ball, he sets up tap ins for fun.
Nicolo Barella – 7.5: Another week, another game, another world class display. Should have got a brace in the first half alone if not for a wonder save by Dragowski. Boss.
Marcelo Brozovic – 6.5: Brozo did not have the best of starts to the game, but slowly got to grips especially when Inter tried to attack. Crucial role in every single positive move.
Arturo Vidal – 5: It took Vidal the best part of 20 minutes to finally wake up and even then, he was unable to reduce the impact of Bonaventura who ran rings around him.
Ivan Perisic – 6.5: There must be something that Perisic does in training that convinces Conte to pick him. The first half was woeful. The second half was much better.
Romelu Lukaku – 6: Fiorentina kept him quiet for most of the time buy outnumbering him. That still did not stop him from doing his defensive and linking up duties. Leader.
Alexis Sanchez – 6: Perhaps the most creative player Inter had on the pitch. Was always trying to out-think the Fiorentina’s defense. Needs a goal to spark things again.
Roberto Gagliardini – 6.5: Probably the best 45 minutes by Gagliardini this season. Inter looked so calm and composed when he was on. Could have even scored a nice header.
Lautaro Martinez – 6.5: The combination work with Lukaku looks much better now. The goals in the last week brought confidence. Now the quality is starting to shine. Il Toro.
Matteo Darmian – N/A: Just came on for Ivan who was cramping up. Made a couple of good interventions and even managed to make a few runs forward. Solid signing.
Andrea Pinamonti – N/A: Another couple of minutes for Pinamonti off the bench as Lukaku looked winded by the 80th minute. Ran a lot and did not give the ball away.
Antonio Conte – 6.5: Fiorentina were one of the 3 teams that Inter have not beaten last season. The game did not start well but tweaked things around to bring home a win.
Federico La Penna – 7: No major decisions to make for La Penna. Did his job and both sides cannot have any complaints with his performance. Never lost control of the game.
Inter – 7 : Prandelli’s men followed the game plan that Conte usually complained about. The worldie from Barella along with 2 great saves finished the game.
