Former Inter striker Antonio Cassano has warned Antonio Conte he faces a ‘bloodbath’ if he doesn’t win the Serie A title this season.
Inter are currently sitting in second place in the standings after 21 games, just two points behind leaders AC Milan.
Conte has two huge league games coming up against Lazio and AC Milan in the next fortnight, which could go a long way to determining the outcome of this season’s title race, and Cassano believes the Nerazzurri boss has no room for error.
“The club bought all the players Conte wanted in the summer, he has the obligation to win,” Cassano, who spent one season at Inter, argued on Bobo TV, the Twitch channel of former Inter and Italy striker Christian Vieri.
“Inter were eliminated from Europe before Christmas, it would be a bloodbath if they did not win the Scudetto either.”
Cassano then argued it would be doubly painful if Inter were to miss out on the title to their city rivals, as opposed to Juventus.
“AC Milan built their team with one euro and fifty cents and they are having an incredible season,” he said.
“If Juventus win the Scudetto you can accept that, but if it’s the Rossoneri who win the title it would be a massacre for Inter.”
Inter will put their league ambitions on hold tonight as they visit Juve for the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final.
Conte’s side must overturn a 2-1 deficit at the Allianz Stadium to reach the final, which is due to be held at San Siro.
