Inter’s Achilles heel cost them once again on Tuesday as they were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Juventus due to poor finishing, a report highlighted today.

Antonio Conte’s side took no fewer than 21 shots at goal during their semi-final second leg at the Allianz Stadium, which ended in a goalless draw and secured a 2-1 aggregate win for the Bianconeri.

But as highlighted by Inter’s match report on their website, which was quoted by FCInter1908.it, only three of those shots finished on target.

“There were a mountain of chances and dangerous attacks which almost always broke down at the final moment,” the report read.

“Gianluigi Buffon did not have to make any decisive saves.”

Inter controlled most of Tuesday’s Derby d’Italia in Turin but were unable to turn their territorial dominance into goals.

This is by no means the first time Conte has been left to ponder what might have been either, with FCIN1908 recalling the two 0-0 draws against Shakhtar Donetsk which ultimately proved fatal for Inter’s UEFA Champions League campaign.

The Italian news outlet pointed out that the Nerazzurri’s inability to convert their chances was ‘a paradox’, given that Inter also have the best attack in Serie A with 51 goals scored in 21 games this season.

“How far could they have gone in Europe if they had taken even just a few of those chances?” they wondered.
