Antonio Conte was deeply disheartened by the way his former Juventus colleagues treated him during Inter’s Coppa Italia match in Turin on Tuesday, according to a report in the Italian media.
Conte was reportedly subject to a barrage of insults and provocations from the Bianconeri’s players and staff – most notably from his former president Andrea Agnelli – at the Allianz Stadium, where he spent three seasons as head coach between 2011 and 2014.
As per Corriere della Sera’s print edition, sources close to Conte said he never expected to suffer such hostility and felt bitter about being treated like ‘any other enemy’ by the club where he made his name.
“Since his divorce from Juventus they had ignored, respected and greeted one another,” the report claimed.
“But they’d never insulted each other.”
There have been a variation of reports on what exactly happened off the field during Tuesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg, with sources at Inter alleging that Juventus peppered Conte with an array of premeditated jibes designed to provoke him.
The Bianconeri’s sporting director Fabio Paratici has also been accused of threatening to hit Lele Oriali in the tunnel at half-time, although Juve have denied this.
The Italian Football Federation reportedly opened an investigation into the incidents today.
