Inter must keep faith with Christian Eriksen as a deep-lying playmaker because his talent is worth waiting for, at least in the eyes of former Lazio and Italian national team midfielder Cristian Ledesma.

Eriksen has struggled to live up to expectations in his year with Inter and in a bid to change his fortunes at the Nerazzurri, Inter coach Antonio Conte started deploying him in the ‘regista’ role, the position that Marcelo Brozovic has occupied at Inter for the past few seasons.

There have been some promising signs from Denmark international Eriksen in the new role but it is clear that he still has a way to go until he can be considered accomplished and comfortable in the new role.

“I think he can do well there, he can direct the game,” Ledesma, who spent nine years with Lazio between 2006 and 2015, explained in an interview with Italian news outlet FCInter1908.it.

“Eriksen is technically strong, and in that role he can certainly do well.

“It is clear that it takes time.

“It is true that other players adapt much faster than him but in my opinion it is worth waiting for a player of Eriksen’s qualities.

“I think we must be happy if Eriksen manages to establish himself in Serie A because he is truly a player of very high quality and he can do well.”

Ledesma, who also played for Lecce, added: “It takes time and maybe it is taking some time to adapt to what is a different style of football to the one he was used to for several years, but I repeat that Eriksen is worth waiting for due to his qualities.”
