Inter’s victory over Lazio will be a shot in the arm for the Nerazzurri ahead of Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina, according to noted Italian journalist Sandro Piccinini.
Antonio Conte’s side ran out 3-1 winners at San Siro on Sunday thanks to a brace from Romelu Lukaku and a goal from Lautaro Martinez.
The result has put the Nerazzurri to the top of the Serie A standings after 22 games played, with an identical points tally to that of Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning side in 2010.
“After this match, Inter have gained a lot of confidence because they got a win against a great team,” Piccinini remarked while present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.
“The Nerazzurri defended well and I want to emphasis Christian Eriksen’s quality.
“I liked what he did, I think he is growing a lot, even in terms of personality.”
Piccinini then went on to stress that he believes that Inter have an advantage over AC Milan considering they have no European commitments to deal with, unlike the Rossoneri.
“The moment has come when Inter can play their joker.
“AC Milan will play on Thursday evening in Serbia against Red Star Belgrade, and then the derby will take place on Sunday at 3 pm.
“So, in theory, the Nerazzurri have an advantage.
“I think the Rossoneri will rotate the team a bit in Europe but on paper there is an advantage.”
Inter currently hold a one-point lead over their city rivals heading into this weekend’s encounter, which will be the third time across all competitions they face off this term.
Each side has one win each and this Sunday’s game could prove to be absolutely pivotal when it comes to deciding where the Serie A title will end up come the end of the season.
