Former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello believes Inter are favorites to win the Derby della Madonnina between the two sides tomorrow afternoon.
Spekaing in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radio Dee Jay earlier today, the former Juventus coach first touched on what difficulties Andrea Pirlo may be facing with the Bianconeri.
“He wanted to bring something different. Then he realised that the quality he had wasn’t for that type of game and he adapted to the players.
“That’s a sign of intelligence, but in the meantime, he has dropped points. If you want to play from the back you should have players who can do that, but players like Porto’s can create difficulties for you.”
He looked ahead to the match tomorrow between Antonio Conte and Stefano Pioli’s sides.
“Inter are favourites. They’re rested, the team is in a better headspace at the moment, they have their players back.
“It was a difficult match against Lazio but the Nerazzurri have shown they can suffer and showed their ability to counterattack.
“If Milan think about going forward and playing the ball, if they leave space Inter will counter. In Europe Milan suffered but those teams turn at home, away from home they lose a little.”
Finally, Capello discussed if he would be a different coach today if he joined a new club.
“I’ve often changed tactics. It always depends on the opponent you meet, you don’t have to have just one system of play.
“I’ve always had respect for the opponent. I knew I had players who could make the difference.”
Antonio Conte’s Inter currently sit top of the league table after 22 games, sitting on 50 points, one ahead of Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan.
For the first time in a decade, the team at the top of the Serie A table will decided by the result in tomorrow’s Milanese derby, bringing an extra level of emotion and tension to the game.
The Nerazzurri have been in a period of strong form lately, coming off a 3-1 win over Lazio last weekend. The Rossoneri, on the other hand, lost their last match against Spezia 2-0.
