Inter president Steven Zhang remains reluctant for Suning to sell the club, according to an Italian media report today.

As per La Repubblica’s print edition, Zhang was forced to watch the Nerazzurri’s Milan derby triumph on TV yesterday after trying in vain to find a way to return to Italy for the game.

He would have been forced to quarantine upon his return to China and this would not have been helpful as Inter discuss selling the club, but Zhang does not want to consider this particular option for now.

Zhang instead wants to find a financial partner who will give Inter a loan – although interested groups have so far asked for shares in Suning’s holding company as a guarantee, something Steven’s father Zhang Jindong will not allow.

La Repubblica’s report said Inter would have to face ‘at least two seasons of austerity’ on the transfer market if Suning solved their economic problems with a loan.

Zhang has not lost hope yet, though, and in the meantime is enjoying seeing Antonio Conte’s side flying high at the top of Serie A.

Earlier today, Inter’s outgoing chief financial officer Tim Williams confirmed that Suning were seeking ‘financial partners’ to help the club with their economic problems.
