Inter are no longer reliant on attacking down one side of the pitch thanks to Christian Eriksen and Ivan Perisic’s improved performances, according to an Italian media report today.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition highlighted how the Nerazzurri have always carried a potent threat on the right-hand side through Achraf Hakimi and Nicolo Barella’s link-up play.
Eriksen and Perisic are now offering a similar outlet for Antonio Conte’s side on the left wing, though, making Inter less predictable when they build their attacking moves.
“The first signs of the revolution came in Florence, when Hakimi assisted Perisic for Inter’s second goal against Fiorentina,” the Milan-based paper argued.
“The upshot is that Perisic and Eriksen, who could both comfortably play further forward like they have done throughout their careers, are now functional with Conte’s ideas.”
Conte never managed to find the right combination on the left wing last season, the report argued, having tried Kwadwo Asamoah and Stefano Sensi together before experimenting with Ashley Young and Roberto Gagliardini.
Perisic and Eriksen’s partnership has transformed Inter’s form on that side, though, strengthening their Scudetto bid with a series of strong performances.
Inter are four points clear at the top of Serie A following Sunday’s crushing victory over AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina.
