Ivan Perisic has persuaded Antonio Conte to give him a second chance at Inter by displaying two precious qualities, according to a report in the Italian media.
The Croatian has taken ownership of the Nerazzurri’s left wing-back spot after excellent all-round displays during the wins against Lazio and AC Milan.
Corriere dello Sport’s print edition today noted that Perisic had allowed Conte to ease Inter’s attacking burden on Achraf Hakimi on the opposite flank.
“Perisic has brought the leadership you’d expect from someone who finished runner-up at the 2018 World Cup and won the treble with Bayern Munich last season,” they revealed.
“He has had the humility to adjust to his new role which requires him to cover the entire wing.”
Perisic and Christian Eriksen’s upturns in form are ensuring Inter now pose as much of a threat on the left wing as they do on the right, where Hakimi and Nicolo Barella have always delivered.
Inter considered selling Perisic last summer following interest from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, reportedly lining up Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri as a replacement.
Conte will be relieved the former Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund midfielder is still in his squad, with Perisic fast becoming a key player in the Nerazzurri’s charge towards the Serie A title.
