Inter have lost a significant amount of revenue from playing games behind closed doors at San Siro, the club have confirmed.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all the Nerazzurri’s home matches have taken place without spectators since football resumed in June, which has contributed heavily to the club’s current financial problems.
In a report released today, Inter have revealed that they estimate that they have lost in the region of €60 million due to the absence of ticketing revenue and their inability to put any tickets or season tickets up for sale.
“The main financial impact at TeamCo level relate to the loss in ticketing revenue due to matches played behind closed doors (or severely restricted numbers) since the end of February 2020,” an official club statement reads.
“The sporting season 2020-21 commenced with stadiums closed or only open to a restricted amount of people.
“As a result, we have not put for sale any season or matchday tickets to date.
“We estimate a negative impact on revenue and cash in the region of €60 million.”
Despite their economic troubles, Inter have had a great season in Serie A so far with them sitting at the top of the Serie A table after 23 games, enjoying a four-point lead over city rivals AC Milan.
Inter have continued to perform on the pitch despite all the uncertainty off it, where rumours about Suning selling the club have been constant.
The Nerazzurri moved to reassure supporters about their owners’ commitment to the club this morning, confirming in a separate statement that Suning would ensure Inter’s financial stability with or without external support.
