Inter are already certain to win the Scudetto this season, according to former AC Milan and Juventus coach Fabio Capello.
The Nerazzurri are four points clear at the top of Serie A with 14 games to play, following yesterday’s comfortable 3-0 win at home to Genoa.
Antonio Conte’s side have won 14 of their last 17 league games and Capello cannot see any hope for Inter’s title rivals, despite there still being an incredibly long way to go.
Asked about the title race on Sky Sport Italia last night, Capello bullishly said: “The league is already finished.”
Conte will not have appreciated Capello placing such enormous pressure on his shoulders with those comments, but the Nerazzurri boss will probably be more grateful for the praise he received for his tactical tweaks in recent months.
“Conte did a very simple and intelligent thing,” Capello said when discussing Inter’s upturn in form.
“He understood that he had to make a change and starting from the match at Sassuolo (in November) he did it.
“Conte went back to playing like last season, helping Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez express themselves properly in addition to Achraf Hakimi.”
Capello, who also spent four years coaching England, then had words of praise for Nicolo Barella after the midfielder’s impressive display against Genoa.
“Barella is one of the three best midfielders in Europe, without a doubt,” he argued.
On Lukaku, he added: “Inter paid €80 million for him and so far he’s repaid their investment.”
