Christian Eriksen is finally becoming a key player for Inter, according to Nerazzurri legend Beppe Bergomi.
The Dane played a full 90 minutes in Serie A for the first time since joining the club yesterday, when Antonio Conte’s side consolidated their four-point lead at the top of the table by beating Genoa 3-0.
Bergomi has always been one of Eriksen’s biggest doubters but even he seems to be changing his mind about the 29-year-old.
“I think he’s even becoming useful in defence now,” Inter’s former defender told Sky Sport Italia last night, after his colleagues had praised Eriksen’s attacking performance.
“Eriksen comes back and helps Inter play the ball out, and in this regard he has become fundamental.”
Conte has now led Inter on an impressive run of 14 wins in 17 league games, taking them clear of title rivals AC Milan and Juventus at the top.
Bergomi has no doubts over the role Conte is playing in driving Inter’s title bid.
“I’ve always said Inter’s squad is no stronger than the other squads and that the added value has always been Conte,” he argued.
“I know the club’s environment well and I know you need a strong coach who holds everything together.
“For now Conte is doing it very well.”
Bergomi also touched on one reason why Ivan Perisic, who has also turned things around at Inter, is a better choice at left wing-back than Ashley Young.
“The physicality of Perisic compared to Young is more useful,” he claimed.
