Inter only have one potential obstacle between themselves and the Serie A title, according to former Nerazzurri defender Salvatore Fresi.
Antonio Conte’s side have moved six points clear of AC Milan at the top with 13 games left to play and are seen as huge favourites to win the title for what would be the first time since 2009-10.
The Nerazzurri are also a long way clear of Juventus, with the Bianconeri now 10 points back with a game in hand.
“If Inter keep up this pace and continue to play like this, then they can win it,” Fresi told Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.
While Fresi, who was part of Inter’s 1997-98 UEFA Cup-winning side, clearly believes they can win the Scudetto, he was quick to point out that Juventus can still pose a risk to their title chase.
“The only risk can come from Juve, if they wake up,” he argued.
“Inter must score as many points as possible because they only need to lose two matches to find themselves in trouble again.
“You have to think about winning head-to-head matches too.”
Inter are next in action against fourth placed Atalanta this coming Monday and a win in this fixture would surely makes things difficult for Atalanta as far as coming back and potentially overtaking Inter is concerned.
Conte’s side have scored more points in the last 18 league games than every other team in Europe’s so-called top five leagues, with the only exception of Manchester City.
