Thanks to their defensive solidity of late, the Serie A title is closer for Inter, an Italian media report has argued today.
Inter beat Atalanta 1-0 last night and it was in fact their seventh clean sheet in their last nine Serie A games and both goalkeeper Samir Handanovic and central defender Milan Skriniar were key in Inter’s success, Tuttosport’s print edition explained.
Handanovic was back to being ‘Batman’ again as he made some big saves during the course of the match at San Siro, while it was Skriniar who decided the match with him scoring during the second half.
This was Skriniar’s third goal of the season and the second which secured Inter a win, after providing the decisive header at Hellas Verona in a 2-1 win back in December.
The Slovakian international appeared close to a move to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur last summer but ended up staying put.
The Turin-based paper suggested that not selling Skriniar could turn out to be the moment which handed Inter the Scudetto.
