There are some similarities between Antonio Conte’s Inter and his first Juventus side, according to an Italian media report today.
Tuttosport’s print edition pointed out that Conte’s 3-5-2 system is now a trademark of his and this was the system he used to begin a winning cycle at Juventus in the 2011-12 season.
He is still using the same formation at Inter now and it has them competing for the Serie A title again, leading the paper to compare and contrast the two teams’ playing styles.
In today’s Inter, just like in sides he has previously coached, Conte has his forwards playing close to one another, with his wing-backs always looking to get forward while his ‘mezzalas’ make forward runs.
A difference however is how Conte has his team build up play from the back, which is the result of the fact football has evolved since Conte was at Juventus, when he asked his team to press more obsessively than he does now at Inter.
Inter’s strike force of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez is better than the Mirko Vucinic and Alessandro Matri partnership Conte had in his first Juve, the report highlighted.
By the same token, Conte had more quality in his midfield at Juve than he currently does at Inter, as he could count on Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio and a much younger version of Arturo Vidal.
