Juventus are living to regret their decision to let Beppe Marotta leave the club for Inter, according to the Bianconeri’s former president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli.
Marotta left the Old Lady in 2019 as part of a managerial reshuffle from Andrea Agnelli, with Inter appointing him as their new chief executive within two months.
Agnelli was left ruing another disastrous early exit from the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday as Juventus were knocked out by FC Porto in the last 16.
Asked by TuttoMercatoWeb on Wednesday whether Juventus had made any managerial mistakes in recent seasons, Cobolli Gigli admitted: “I didn’t understand why Agnelli wanted to sever ties with Marotta.
“Juventus need mature directors who have experience and are capable of suggesting signings which are in line with their financial needs.
“Unless the club wants to continuing investing €120 million each year into transfer fees, which I doubt.”
Marotta has played a hugely important role at keeping Inter’s Serie A title charge on track in 2021, acting as a shield for the players from all the club’s off-field problems.
He tested positive for COVID-19 two weeks ago but this has not stopped Antonio Conte’s side going from strength to strength in the league, winning each of their last three games since Marotta went into isolation.
Juventus are 10 points behind Inter in the table, albeit they have one game in hand against Napoli.
