Inter’s chief executive Beppe Marotta is in hospital after complications from COVID-19, according to a report in the Italian media this evening.
Corriere della Sera reported that Marotta was taken to the Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan a few days ago, on advice from the Nerazzurri’s chief doctor Piero Volpi (which would suggest this is a precautionary measure).
His condition is said to be ‘improving’ after first testing positive for the virus on February 25.
The report offered no further information on Marotta’s situation but news of his improving condition will be of great relief to everyone at Inter and the club’s supporters.
Marotta contracted COVID-19 at the end of last month along with fellow Inter directors Piero Ausilio and Alessandro Antonello and the club’s lawyer Angelo Cappellini.
Inter’s deputy sporting director Dario Baccin also tested positive the following week.
No players have tested positive within Antonio Conte’s squad since the outbreak, despite an increase in the testing program during the last two weeks.
