Inter’s young defender Lorenzo Pirola is delighted with his decision to stay at Monza in the January transfer window.
Pirola joined Cristian Brocchi’s side on a season-long loan in the summer but struggled for regular game time early on, leading to lots of speculation that he could have his loan cut short and be sent out on loan elsewhere.
Things have however turned around for the highly-rated 19-year-old, who has featured in three of Monza’s last four league matches and helped them to keep three clean sheets in each of these games.
“There was interest from Pescara and the deal was practically done,” Pirola, who is under contract with Inter until the end of the 2024-25 season, revealed in an interview with Italian news outlet PianetaSerieB.
“At the same time, however, I felt the trust of the club and the coach Brocchi.
“In the end I preferred to stay at Monza and now I think the decision is paying off because I am finding more and more space.
“I feel happy and satisfied to still play in the team of my city, with me being from Brianza.”
Pirola made his first-team debut for Inter at end of last season, with Antonio Conte giving him a substitute appearance during a 4-0 win at SPAL.
He has made a total of six appearances out on loan at Monza this season, who currently sit second in Serie B.
Pirola made his debut for Italy’s under-21s last October.
