Inter have been hard at work to sign Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum for several months now, according to an Italian media report.
As per CalcioMercato.com, the Nerazzurri’s sporting director Piero Ausilio had had several conversation with the player’s agent, with Wijnaldum apparently open to joining Inter when his deal with the Premier League champions expired.
Contacts between the parties were well underway before Inter’s economic problems brought things to an abrupt halt, meaning any kind of deal has become very difficult.
Inter now have different priorities and above all it will be necessary to understand what the future of the club will be, but the idea of signing Wijnaldum will linger for a little while longer, despite the obvious current difficulties.
Wijnaldum is due to leave Liverpool at the end of this season but recently said there was no news as far as his future was concerned.
The 30-year-old has made 39 appearances across all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, who he joined from Newcastle United back in 2016.
The Dutch international has scored three goals in the current campaign.
