Inter centre-back Stefan De Vrij is still waiting for talks to be finalised over a new contract after the Dutchman put a poor start to the season behind him.
The former Lazio defender has two years remaining on the five-year deal he signed up joining the Nerazzurri in 2018, but is yet to open discussions on an extension.
According to Calciomercato.com, De Vrij has emerged as one of Inter’s most consistent performers over the past few months after a difficult start to the campaign, and had hoped to be rewarded with a new deal.
The 29-year-old initially struggled with Inter’s high-pressing style that often left the team exposed on the counterattack, but a tactical tweak by coach Antonio Conte has seen De Vrij improve and find greater comfort.
Meanwhile, it is reported that his form and leadership has prompted Inter to consider extending De Vrij’s contract, but the Dutchman’s agent Mino Raiola is waiting for official discussions to be converted into documents and a signed contract extension by owners Suning.
Whilst a verbal agreement over the desire from both parties has been reached, there has as yet been no formal offer.
