Inter are keen to extend the contract of centre-back Stefan De Vrij and have engaged in renewal talks with the Netherlands international.
The 29-year-old has two years remaining on the deal he signed upon joining the Nerazzurri from Serie A rivals Lazio on a free transfer in 2018.
According to Calciomercato.com, De Vrij’s impressive form after a difficult start to the season has seen him become an integral part of Antonio Conte’s defence and Inter are looking to tie the defender down to a new deal.
De Vrij, meanwhile, is also hoping to earn a new contract and his agent Mino Raiola has already begun discussions over an extension to 2025, with an increase in wages.
The stumbling block remains Inter owners Suning however, who are yet to sign off on a new deal for De Vrij despite all parties coming to a verbal agreement.
Amidst cost-cutting and negotiations over a sale of the club, the Chinese retail firm are reassessing budgets and will not commit to a new contract until this situation becomes clearer.
