Inter have had the Serie A title already wrapped up for several weeks now, at least according to Fabio Capello.
The Nerazzurri are in a very strong position to secure the club’s first Scudetto since 2010, having pulled nine points clear of second-placed AC Milan with yesterday’s 2-1 win at Torino.
Capello believes there is no chance of anybody stopping Antonio Conte’s side, and not because of what happened yesterday.
Asked what the former AC Milan and Juvenus coach would think if he were in Conte’s shoes, Capello told Sky Sport Italia last night: “I’ve been saying for weeks that Inter won the title a while ago.
“I have been saying this since AC Milan lost against Spezia (on February 13) and I am reiterating it again.”
Capello also believes teams have figured out the key to stopping Inter’s attacking play, as demonstrated by Torino’s tactics yesterday.
“Atalanta understood that if you stop Achraf Hakimi and Nicolo Barella, Inter struggle a lot,” he argued.
“I think that Torino adopted this strategy as well.
“If you stop these two, things get a lot harder for Inter.”
Capello, who last coached at Jiangsu FC, went on to speak on Inter’s lethal strike partnership of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, who have combined for 41 goals between them this season.
“On a technical level I don’t think there is any discussion, Lautaro is superior to Lukaku.
“Lukaku is physically stronger, he is faster, but technically Lautaro is absolutely superior.”
In conclusion Capello shared his views on Inter coach Antonio Conte, who now has his Nerazzurri side sitting nine points clear at the top of the Serie A standings with 11 games left to play.
“We have to congratulate him because he understood that playing more exposed gets the team into more difficulties.
“He was intelligent.
“In my opinion, Juventus are more complete than Inter in terms of squad but the same team did a lot for Conte, he knows the squad better now.”
