Samir Handanovic has become Inter’s second player to test positive for COVID-19 this week.
The Nerazzurri announced on Tuesday that Danilo D’Ambrosio had contracted the virus and subsequently subjected their players to another round of tests.
Reports in Italy earlier today had said there were no further cases within Inter’s first-team squad, but that has proved to not be the case.
Inter confirmed Handanovic had tested positive for COVID-19 this morning with a statement on their website, adding that the goalkeeper was already quarantining at home.
Antonio Conte will be forced to select either Daniele Padelli or Ionut Radu in goal for Saturday’s Serie A match at home to Sassuolo.
It now remains to be seen whether any more Inter players will be ruled out of the match at San Siro, which could be key for their hopes of winning the Scudetto.
Radu and Padelli both tested positive earlier this season, along with Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Aleksandar Kolarov, Ashley Young, Radja Nainggolan, Roberto Gagliardini and Marcelo Brozovic.
