Ionut Radu will replace Samir Handanovic for Inter’s match against Sassuolo after the Slovenian tested positive for COVID-19, according to an Italian media report tonight.

Inter announced this evening that Handanovic had contracted the virus and as per Gazzetta dello Sport, Romanian international Radu will be the man that Inter coach Antonio Conte calls upon to replace the 36-year-old at San Siro.

Radu has not featured whatsoever for Inter this season but has been virtually ever present on the substitutes bench, aside from the period where he had to miss out due to his own COVID-19 period.

The former Genoa player has played just once at senior level for Inter with that appearance dating back to May 2016, but coincidentally that also came against Saturday’s opponents Sassuolo.

Inter won the match 3-1 but Radu was not on the pitch when the Nerazzurri conceded, as Juan Pablo Carrizo had started the match before picking up an injury in the second half.

Handanovic and Danilo D’Ambrosio are the only two confirmed positives within Inter’s first-team squad as things stand.
