Inter have five reasons to be confident they can become Serie A champions this season, according to a report in the Italian media.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, the Nerazzurri are exactly where they hoped they would be at the start of the season with 11 games left, or rather ahead of Juventus heading into the final stretch.
Antonio Conte’s side can take advantage of a favourable fixture list between now and the end of the season, the report suggested, with Napoli, Roma and Juventus themselves the only high-profile sides still to come.
But Inter should also take heart from how they have shown themselves capable of adapting to whichever opponent they face, as well as from the solidity they are demonstrating at present.
Alexis Sanchez’s excellent form up front was said to be a fourth factor in Conte’s favour heading into the title run-in, with the Chilean now providing a reliable back-up option to Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.
Finally, there is the fact that Conte and chief executive Beppe Marotta have a real desire to put an end to their former employers Juventus’ dominance in Serie A.
Inter are not due to play again until April 3 now after Saturday’s fixture at home to Sassuolo was postponed following a COVID-19 outbreak.
Stefan de Vrij, Matias Vecino, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Samir Handanovic have all tested positive in the last 48 hours with the rest of Conte’s players completing another round of tests this afternoon.
