Former AC Milan winger Roberto Donadoni believes that the Rossoneri can still mount a challenge for the Serie A title, but conceded that Inter and Juventus are better equipped.

Milan had led the league table for much of the season but fell behind Inter in February, with the Nerazzurri opening up a nine-point gap at the top with 11 games remaining.

In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Donadoni praised the work of Milan this season and claimed that they could bounce back from Europa League elimination to Manchester United and challenge domestically.

“I’m sure that nobody today in the Milan dressing room thinks that the team is doing more than what could have been expected,” the former Italy coach declared.

“They are second in the table after finishing the first half of the season top, they have won many games and left with their heads held high against United. If Milan have done all this while supposedly struggling, we must remain confident for the rest of the season.

“Hopefully for a season finale that is worthy of what has been achieved so far. If Milan continue to look forward, without looking back then they’ll be in the top three.”

Donadoni felt that the Scudetto remained a possibility for his former club but conceded that Inter and third-placed Juventus had the advantage in the race for the title.

“Inter and Juve are better equipped, more complete in terms of staff. The accumulation of a long and demanding season is also a factor. If Milan can transform their disappointment of being eliminated from the Europa League into greater impetus, then why not?”

Donadoni made 261 appearances for Milan from 1986 to 1996 and won six Serie A titles, in addition to the European Cup/Champions League three times.
